Hello!
Welcome to a Wide Open Summer. Here we will learn how to use a range of digital cameras, for the purpose of visual communication. Its our belief that learning how to operate a camera, like a pencil for writing or a paint brush to paint, can help visually inclined persons communicate in ways that align with their way of thinking.

Our Goal is to empower kids with instruction on how to operate a digital camera for the purpose of visual communication
The goal of the Wide Open Summer is to help kids develop an understanding of how digital cameras operate, and help them communicate visually through stills and motion. They have an opportunity to explore their feeling and ideas that may be too hard to share in words, written on paper or verbally. Over the course of the program (1 day a week for 6 weeks), students grouped by grade (K-5) will learn how to operate a basic DSLR digital camera (Canon 5D) to a the “first generation” mirrorless camera like the Sony A7S. Emphasis is on the camera grip and knowing their surroundings in relation to the lens. Throughout the lesson plan, the kids will be shown what’s considered a “good composition” and encouraged to frame what they see in the way they see it.
